Genesis to Revelation Bible Blogs
John MacArthur (1939–2025) was a prominent American evangelical pastor, author, and teacher best known for his 56 year tenure as the pastor-teacher of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California. He was a leading figure in conservative Protestantism, recognized globally for his expository preaching—a style that involves a verse-by-verse, systematic explanation of the Bible.
Key Ministry & Leadership
Grace to You (GTY): He founded this international media ministry in 1977, which distributes his sermons via radio, television, and the internet in dozens of languages.
The Master’s University and Seminary: He served as president and later chancellor of The Master’s University and founded The Master’s Seminary in 1986 to train men for pastoral ministry.

Theological Positions
MacArthur was known for his uncompromising and often debated theological stances:
Lordship Salvation: He argued that true faith in Christ must be accompanied by a submission to His lordship and a life of obedience.
Cessationism: He believed that “sign gifts” like tongues and prophecy ceased after the apostolic age and was a vocal critic of the Charismatic movement.
Complementarianism: He held that biblical roles for men and women are distinct and that the office of pastor/elder is reserved for men.
Calvinism: He adhered to Reformed theology, emphasizing God’s sovereignty in salvation.
Young Earth Creationism: He advocated for a literal six-day creation and opposed evolutionary theory.
