J.C. Ryle (1816–1900) was a prominent English Anglican bishop, writer, and preacher known for his straightforward, “granite-like” defense of Reformed theology within the Church of England. The first Bishop of Liverpool from 1880 until his death, he became a national figure for his prolific output of books.
