Jonathan Edwards (1703–1758) was a foundational American theologian, philosopher, and Congregationalist minister whose work and preaching spearheaded the First Great Awakening. He is regarded as one of America's most important and original intellectuals known for synthesizing Calvinist orthodoxy with philosophy.
